Description:
One single bloom. That's all it takes to make a classic boutonnière. In the 21st century, men often scoff a flowers thinking they are feminine and meant for the fairer sex. However, since ancient times, flowers have been worn by fierce warriors, the greatest athletes, heroes, and honorable statesmen.
A classic boutonnière is a medium bloom placed in the left lapel hole, with the stem covered by the lapel, and held in place by the latch. An article written by contributing author Antonio Centeno, for The Art of Manliness website (artofmanliness.com), states there are three reasons to wear a boutonnière. First, it is a conversation starter. Centeno warns that it should only start the conversation, not be the conversation. Secondly, a boutonnière provides one with something to give. This single stem could be easily given to a host, a special woman, or the guest of honor at the end of an event or date. The last reason is simple – it shows character. Taking the time to pick a flower shows there is a flair for sophistication and attention to detail. Some think that silk boutonnières are better, but Antonio Centeno remains that a fresh flower is best. Centeno gives men a lot of style advice on his own website Real men Real Style (realmenrealstyle.com). One of his pro tips on boutonnières: keep it simple and "never upstage the ladies."
